Heaters For the Home – Based on the Area to Be Heated

Ryan L. Daniels asked:

One of the greatest ways to efficiently heat your home and substantially reduce your heating costs is by lowering the temperature on your home thermostat and focus on finding alternative ways to heat individual rooms that are used the most. By heating individual rooms, you are looking at a dramatic drop in your heating costs.

With electric baseboard heaters you can add extra heat to an already existing system of another type, provided that you have the space required in your panel board to supply the necessary power. They are also a great way to heat the basement, attic or garage as no piping or duct work for installation is required.

You can also consider a gas wall heater for your garage but it has to be installed professionally especially if it is a ventless one. Alternatively warming your garage or workshop can be conveniently accomplished using an electric garage heater. A fan forced electric garage heater is inexpensive, easy to operate and most important maintenance free.

Propane space heaters are an effective way to heat a small room or living area. But it is important to ensure that you choose a propane space heater that is specifically designed to be used indoors. Propane heaters that are designed for outdoor use will cause high levels of carbon monoxide to be emitted and should never be used indoors. You should also make certain that you never use a propane heater while sleeping.

Electricity is an effective way to heat bedrooms and smaller areas because these areas require less heat than living areas. Most electric space heaters are suitable for these heating purposes, but infrared heaters, oil-filled heaters, and electric wall heaters are also suitable.

Oil Filled Heaters are safe, silent (which is very important while you are asleep) and they provide enough heat to comfortably warm up an average size bedroom. Some expensive models come a timer that allow you to set it to warm the room more before you have to wake up and get out of bed. And some new models have an instant heat button that allows you to heat up your room very quickly.

Portable space heaters can be used when the main heating system is inadequate or when central heating is too costly to install or operate. The primary thing you should think about before you purchase a portable heater is to consider where you’ll be using the heater. Is it indoor or outdoors? Are there electrical plugs available?

If you’re going to be using your heater indoors, your best bet is to go with a portable electric heater. Electric heaters are great for indoor use as they are powerful and efficient, and electrical plugs are widely available in any home or office building.

If you’re primarily going to be using your heater outdoors, then a portable propane heater or portable gas heater is going to be your best bet. Propane and gas heaters are both very efficient and the gas tanks they run on can be taken virtually anywhere.
